Burn Surge Blitz TTX
On August 14, 2024, the Region VII Disaster Health Response Ecosystem held a tabletop exercise with its partner organizations. The purpose of this exercise was to review and validate the new regional burn plan currently under development.

- Burn Mass Casualty Incident 
Key Capabilities Exercised:
- Improve Statewide and regional situational awareness 
- Develop metrics and conduct an exercise to test capabilities 
- Build a partnership for disaster health response 
- Align plans, policies, procedures related to clinical excellence in disasters 
- Increase statewide and regional medical surge capacity 
Objectives Exercised:
- Identify the communication, coordination, and transfer process of burn patients (primary and secondary transfer) within the Midwest Burn Region during a large-scale burn event. 
- Discuss and define the plan and/or process for acquiring additional supplies for burn patients at frontline facilities during a prolonged delay to a burn center (> 72 hours). 
- Review existing burn care assets and identify gaps that may occur in a burn-related mass-casualty incident. - Structured triage from a transport perspective. 
- Telehealth support from a primary burn center and/or burn coordinating center. 
 
- Discuss alignment of HHS Region VII, American Burn Association (ABA), and R7DHRE during a large-scale burn event.
